When someone is affected by mental illness or addiction, it can affect the entire family. When that person enters treatment, the family's pain and confusion doesn't just go away. Family members need a way to move past the damage that has occurred all while strengthening the ties that hold it together. This discussion will address how to re-story the family script to include healthy patterns of communication, boundaries, and self care. The speaker will also discuss family recovery and healing strategies that will provide clinicians with strategies to address these needs and to assist families in their own process of self-exploration and growth.
Compassion is sensitivity to the experience of suffering, coupled with a deep commitment to alleviate that suffering. We will explore how we can take compassionate action and care profoundly for others without becoming overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted or getting lost in the suffering of the situation.
