Shamanism is a spiritual healing practice which cuts across all faiths and creeds, because it is not an organized religion as such, but rather reaching deep levels of ancestral memory. As a primal belief system, which precedes established religion, it has its own symbolism and cosmology.
Those who are considered to be shamans typically have been brought up and trained in spiritual healing by an elder healer from their shared culture or tribe. There is no set standard for becoming a shaman, as they come from many different cultures and healing traditions, and develop their skills and knowledge over many years and through ancestral wisdom.
